Kronk Gym returns to Detroit’s Brewster-Wheeler | Opening soon

KRONK is coming home. One of boxing’s most storied names is returning to its roots in Detroit. A new 3,500-square-foot KRONK Gym will open soon inside the historic Brewster-Wheeler Recreation Center at 670 Wilkins Street a site that once trained icons and shaped the city’s boxing legacy.

“For me, it’s very personal. It’s a tremendous responsibility because having been mentored and raised by Emanuel, it’s held near and dear to my heart. I want to make sure it’s not restored just as a boxing gym, but that it also helps kids find a path for their future — either in or outside the ring.”
— John Lepak, COO

Founded by legendary trainer Emanuel Steward, KRONK became a cradle for champions and a cornerstone for Detroit’s west side. Through relocations, a pandemic, and even a devastating flood, the mission never wavered: build champions in the ring and strong futures outside of it.

The new Detroit location will blend professional training with mentorship and youth outreach, honoring Steward’s vision through programs for kids and adults. From Junction to Wilkins, this chapter is about more than a gym opening it’s about returning to purpose and investing in the next generation.
